Storyteller &
TRUTH SEEKER
My name is Lauren Veldhuizen, and I am a journalist, reporter, and writer based in Washington, D.C. I am a graduate of Wake Forest University (Go Deacs!) with a BA in Politics & International Affairs and minors in Music and Theatre.
My mission is to tell accurate, meaningful stories that captivate readers and develop the moral imagination. If I could describe myself without a traditional vocational title, the two descriptors that come to mind are Storyteller and Truth Seeker. These attributions stem from the 15 formative years I spent in the theatre as an actress, singer, designer, director, and playwright. The process of creating a character and developing a design is not unlike creating a philosophy for one’s own life. As an actress and artist, I sought to understand people not just for who they are or what they are, but for why they are. I then translated those things onto the stage. Now, as a journalist, I seek the same, but with a keyboard and camera.
My academic interests in philosophy, political theory, and classical literature, and my creative interests in the performing arts, culminate in a love of people and a desire to share their stories through the written word and visual media.
